Moldova is in a very good position to obtain a liberalized visa regime in a reasonably short period of time, considers Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, who took part in the first meeting within the new initiative of informal Eastern Partnership dialogues, Info-Prim Neo reports. The European officials stressed that the liberalization of the visa regime will depend on the EU member states and on the way Moldova implements the projected reforms. “The roadmap covers three cooperation dimensions and refers first of all to the political association, mobility and liberalization of the visa regime, and sector cooperation,” said Stefan Fule. He also said that this document also covers the multilateral dimension and the bilateral one and substantial progress is expected to be made by the next Eastern Partnership Summit that will take place in 2013. The Action Plan on Visa Liberalization consists of two stages. The first stage included the adoption of a series of laws, counting the antidiscrimination law and the law on the reformation of the Anticorruption Center. The second stage will include a study of the impact of the future liberalization of the visa regime with Moldova. “I underline that Moldova has political determination. The question is: how and when? I hope that the member states will soon give their consent to shifting to the second stage that will help the Moldovans travel visa-free,” stated Stefan Fule. The first meeting of the new initiative of informal Eastern Partnership dialogues took place in Moldova on June 5. The initiative was launched by the European Commission and the European External Action Service this May.
