The Republic of Moldova received the Questionnaire of the European Commission following the submission of the application for EU membership. The document was handed over to Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, by Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi on Monday in Luxemburg, IPN reports.

“The responses we will give to the questions from this Questionnaire will show the current state of affairs and our readiness to join the European Union and will also indicate where we should make additional effort,” said the Moldovan official.

Nicu Popescu noted that the Republic of Moldova has accelerated its European integration pace. An intense period of work will follow. The institutions are prepared to furnish the necessary information during the shortest period of time. Not only the authorities, but also civil society will be involved in the process as the entry into the EU is a country project that covers everyone.

“We want to show again that we are a country in which democracy functions, the reforms are possible, the transformation processes produce results, while our course to the EU is irreversible!” stated Nicu Popescu.

President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița signed Moldova’s application for EU membership on March 3 this year.
