The national men’s team of Moldova ranked 31st among 185 squads at the World Chess Olympiad in Batumi. Moldova scored 14 points, as the 25th ranked team, IPN reports.
In the last match, Moldova lost to Uzbekistan 1-3. Viorel Iordăchescu and Nikita Morozov tied, while Viorel Bologan and Dmitrii Svetushkin lost in the last round. China won the Chess Olympiad, being followed by the U.S. and Russia.
The national women’s team scored 13 points and finished 47th, having the same score as the 32nd ranked team. In the last round, Moldova lost to Turkey 1-3, the only victory being won by Paula-Alexandra Gîtu. The women’s competition was also won by China.
