Moldova, EIB to sign first road rehabilitation project

Moldova and the European Investment Bank (EIB) will sign on June 28 the first project for Moldova’s road rehabilitation “Moldova – Project for European Roads”. The financing of the projects was established under an agreement between the Government of Moldova and the EIB, signed on 1 November 2006.
President Vladimir Voronin, attending the 9th Reunion of the Moldova – EU Cooperation Council, had a meeting with the president of the EIB, Philippe Maystadt, during which was discussed the perspective of implementing projects that are to be financed from the budget stipulated for the second mandate of the EIB – 2007-2013. Among the priorities were named the road infrastructure and the energy sector, development of the supplies of water and heat and of the railroad network, and their adjustment to the European standards.
Voronin had another meeting with the prime-minister of Luxemburg, Jean-Clode Juncker. In his press statements, Juncker referred to the necessity of tightening the cooperation between Moldova and EU, emphasising the fact that the Action Plan includes areas where the cooperation can be expanded. In the context of the bilateral relations between Moldova and Luxemburg, the official announced that the deputy prime-minister, the Foreign and Immigration minister of Luxemburg, Jean Asselon, will visit Chisinau soon to sign the Agreement on avoiding the double taxation and preventing tax dodging between the two countries.
During the Reunion of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Council, the European officials appreciated the progress in the economic reforms, especially the improvement in the business climate.
