In 26 years since the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has examined complaints submitted against the Republic of Moldova, the state was convicted for 590 times after ascertaining 764 human rights vioaltions. An analysis by the Legal Resources Center from Moldova shows that most of the violations refer to the right to a fair trial, the prohibition of torture and the right to liberty and security, IPN reports.

The violation of the right to a fair trial was among the most frequently ascertained violations. The Moldovan authorities violated for 239 times this right that is protected by Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

This is followed by the violation of Article 3 of the Convention, which prohibits torture. The representatives of the state neglected this provision in 180 cases. Also, the right to liberty and security was violated for 113 times, while the right to an effective remedy - for 65 times.

“We want a lot this case law collection to facilitate the application of the ECHR standards at national level and to contribute to preventing other similar violations,” said Daniel Goinic, director of the Human Rights Program of the Legal Resources Center.

As from September 12, 1997, the European Court of Human Rights has dealt with complaints lodged against the Republic of Moldova.
