Moldova defeats Turkey in Davis Cup

The men’s national team of Moldova kept its place in Group Two Euro/African Zone after winning the playoff against hosts Turkey, 3-2, Info-Prim Neo reports. The decisive point for the Tricolors was obtained by young tennis player Maxim Dubarenco, who won a dramatic victory against Haluk Akkoyun, 2-6, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3, 4-6. The match was played on Sunday, April 8. Moldova’s best-rated player Radu Albot was decisive as well. He first won a singles match, then a doubles fixture together with Andrei Ciumac. Moldova will play at least another year in Group Two Euro/African Zone of Davis Cup, repeating the result of 11 years ago when the Moldovans bested the Turks in a playoff in Chisinau.
