The Republic of Greece took over the presidency of the EU on January 1, 2014. It will hold it for half a year and will then pass it on to Italy. On this occasion, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca sent the best wishes for a successful presidency of the European Union to Greek Premier Antonis Samaras and Italian Premier Enrico Letta, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.
“My country entered a crucial year for making progress on its path to European integration. The signing of the Association Agreement in August 2014 at the latest and its provisional implementation and the competition of decision making over the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans, during the current mandate of the European Parliament, will not only confirm the irreversible character of the current changes taking place in Moldova, but will also increase Moldova’s confidence that it will ultimately gain its road to the EU,” said Iurie Leanca.
The message also says that the discussions held in Vilnius with the two heads of Government, concerning the cooperation priorities between Moldova and the EU, strengthened the conviction that Moldova will benefit from the support of Greece and Italy in achieving its European integration objective. Iurie Leanca said he counts on fruitful cooperation during the Greek and Italian presidencies of the EU.
The Moldovan Premier reiterated the invitation to Antonis Samaras and Enrico Letta to visit Moldova in the nearest future.
