The media in the region, but also in Russia, reported that Moldova will supply electricity to Ukraine. Following the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Chisinau-Bucharest-Kiev trilateral last week, the plan for the construction of electricity generators on the territory of the Republic of Moldova that will work based on Ukrainian gas was outlined, IPN reports, referring to informator.ua.
Moldova is ready to install power plants on its territory. The energy could be produced using natural gas supplied by Ukraine, the quoted source emphasized.
Within the framework of the project, the states intend to make the gas infrastructure “commercially reliable”, Dmitry Kuleba, Mihai Popsoi and Luminita Odobescu outlined and discussed the current security situation in the region, as well as the prospects for cooperation, Informator.ua said, referring to a message on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
In particular, the parties noted the major importance of the development of regional electricity connections and committed themselves to working together to increase the capacity of the Trans-Balkan Gas Pipeline as part of the Vertical Gas Corridor.
Moreover, the ministers of foreign affairs expressed their readiness to work to increase the efficiency and volume of transited goods, first of all, agricultural products, from (to) Ukraine through Moldova and Romania to the Danube ports, giving special priority to railways within the “Solidarity Lanes”.
“The Republic of Moldova and Romania confirm their readiness to contribute to the post-conflict reconstruction of Ukraine. The geographical location allows the Republic of Moldova and Romania to play a significant role in supporting the reconstruction and to act as a logistics hub for the companies and organizations involved,” stressed the decision-makers. The three countries intend to work together to harmonize natural gas quality parameters and develop projects to produce green hydrogen using renewable energy sources.
At the same time, Moldova and Romania reaffirmed their support for the Joint Communiqué on the foundations of peace in Ukraine and the readiness to work for the establishment of a just peace for Ukraine, within the vision presented by the Ukrainian side at the First Global Peace Summit.
