The authorities plan to export about 900,000 tonnes of grains as this year’s harvest is expected to be good, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Victor Tozlovan, the head of the Agriculture Ministry’s State Inspectorate for Bakery Products, only the food wheat will not be exported. It will be processed in Moldova for domestic needs. The food wheat is the wheat that contains 18-22% of gluten. About 30% of the projected harvest of 1.3 million tonnes of wheat will be food wheat and 70% will be fodder wheat. About 900,000 tonnes of fodder wheat will be harvested this year. Half of this quantity will be exported, while the rest will be used in the country. There will be also exported about 225,000 tonnes of barley and approximately 200,000 tonnes of corn. Moldova plans to harvest 425,000 tonnes of barley, 220,000 tonnes out of which will be used for consumption in the animal breeding sector. The cost price of a kilogram of barley on the home market is about 2 lei. Some 3 tonnes of corn are projected to be harvested from a hectare. Moldova needs 1.2 million tonnes of corn for the internal needs. Specialists say that no large quantities of grains have been sold yet as the potential buyers expect the gluten content in the wheat to grow. This usually happens during a month after it is harvested.
