The Republic of Moldova will be able to purchase electric power from Romania at the price of 450 RON/MWh, which is equal to about 90 EUR/MWh. This price is lower than the market prices and Moldova as from October 14 can this way secure the 30% of electricity that it can no longer receive from Ukraine, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu informed through social media.

According to the official, this became possible after the Government of Romania amended the national legislation on October 12 following discussions with the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The Government of Romania adopted an emergency ordinance providing that the electric power producers are obliged to sign bilateral contracts within the limits of the available quantities primarily with electricity traders/suppliers designated by the Government of the Republic of Moldova
. The Commission for Exceptional Satiations of Moldova designated Energocom.

Andrei Spînu noted that the necessary electrical energy can be bought if the producers in Romania have sufficient available quantities. He called on the people to continue saving electricity. Recently, the citizens were encouraged to save power, within possibilities, between 7am and 10am and between 6pm and 11pm.

The Republic of Moldova managed to synchronize the national electric power system with the European system in March. As from October 11, Moldova has been fully supplied with electrical energy by MGRES (Kuchurgan Power Plant). This is possible because Moldovagaz allocated an additional amount of 0.9 million cubic meters of gas to MGRES for producing the electricity needed for 24 hours. The measures were taken after Russian missiles hit energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine and caused a halt in the export of electrical energy to the EU and Moldova.
