2The Republic of Moldova could be included in the list of candidate countries for hosing the Global Forum on Migration and Development in 2020. This is one of the global events that addresses migration issues. The possibility of applying was noted by the new head of the IOM Mission to Moldova Lars Johann Lonnback in a meeting with the Government’s secretary general Lilia Palii, IPN has learned from the State Chancellery.
The Global Forum on Migration and Development annually brings together 200 delegates from different countries with the aim of identifying the relevant policies and opportunities on migration and development in the participating states.
Lilia Palii said the migration problems have been in the authorities’ focus and the State Chancellery, through the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, ensures the implementation of the mechanism for coordinating state policies in the field. These measures are aimed at efficiently implementing the migration policy and at reducing the negative effects of migration.
The interlocutors discussed the combination of forces in preventing and fighting trafficking in human beings and interaction of the involved players and the implementation of the program “Diaspora Succeeds at Home – DAR 1+3”, which is deigned to encourage partnerships between the diaspora, the central and local public authorities and the development partners for implementing projects to develop the native localities of the diaspora members.
