“It would be, at least, mistaken to make abstraction of what's going on on the world financial markets, although the collapse of the American investment banks, the panic on the biggest stock exchanges do not affect the Moldovan financial market straightforward,” says Valeriu Lazar, the manager of a consulting firm and ex-Minister of Economy, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Lazar argues Moldova is seen as part within its region. “In addition, we're a young emerging market, growing quickly, but the risks are also there. In the case of such markets, in less lucky global conditions, we take a more reserved stance. Those tensions will manifest anyway, they cannot pass unnoticed,” Lazar specifies.
He says the present situation is beneficial for speculators. “In a market where there are big risks, as a rule there are also large margins for gains. The conditions are very good for bourse speculators, and not only. Moldova is slowly entering the so-called carry trade market. It means you can take loans in Italy, for example, and to come here with the money to deposit them in a Moldovan bank. I think you can gain a difference of some 10 percentage points. And you cannot blame those people. It's an opportunity they use successfully. It's positive signal for the Moldovan market, if we can manage this situation and do not let the things loose,” Lazar says.
He points out that the National Bank is successfully monitoring what is going on on the financial-banking market, counting much on the professionalism of its employees and it will not get to state from where the things will not be able to come to normal.
