With a daily capacity of 3,000 tonnes and depositories of 50,000 tonnes, the first grain terminal through which Moldova can export cereals was inaugurated on July 24 in Giurgiulesti, Info-Prim Neo reports. Its management plans to annually export about half a million tones of grain, almost all Moldova’s grain export. The first barge is bound to leave the port on August 15. The port’s administration plans to buy more ships and to ensure the transit for other grain ships. “We shall purchase barges from a company in Galati. As for the grain transit, we have already concluded contracts with companies from Russian and Kazakhstan,” said Vaja Jashi, the manager of Trans Oil, which built the terminal. “Shipping grain by sea is 50% cheaper than by trains or trucks. Moldova has already exported raw material to Greece, Italy, Turkey, Philippines from the Giurgiulesti port,” stated economy minister Igor Dodon.
