The Moldova Biomass and Energy Project will be extended by 3 more years as decided by the project's board, IPN has learned from a press release of the Ministry of Economy.

Nicola Harrington-Buhay, UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova, said that board appreciated the project's global effects. “It's for the first time in my career that I see a single project touching on so many important issues: creating jobs in rural areas, including jobs for women, educational actions among adults and children, creating successful local public-private partnerships, involving foreign experts and so on”, said the official.

Alexandre Darras, representative of the EU Delegation to Moldova, said that the project was extended thanks to its success and impact. This time, it will cover the Transnistrian region as well. “We want to support the private sector and to encourage it to use energy efficient technologies in the process of production”, said Darras.

During the implementation of the project, 160 public institutions have been connected to biomass heating systems, 30 more than initially planned, and 360 new jobs created.
