Moldova awards its best athletes of 2014

Serghei Marghiev and Ana Berghii have been named the best athletes of the year in Moldova. The awards have been handed by the General Assembly of the Athleticism Federation, IPN reports.

Serghei Marghiev took the 9th place at the European Championships in Zurich and set a new national record at hammer-throwing. Meanwhile, Ana Beghii won the gold medal at the European Championships in the 400 meters team contest. “This year I became national champion and achieved several goals. I'm satisfied”, she told the press.

Marghiev' s father and coach, Soslan Marghiev, was named Coach of the Year.

Moldova's young athletes who stood out in 2014 are Polina Ciui and Pavel Mura, who reached the finals of the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, and Adrian Mardare, who took the bronze medal at javelin throwing in the World Youth Championships.
