The match between Moldova and Austria, of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification process, in the evening of September 1 started with a delay of 30 minutes owing to a drone that surveyed the Zimbru Stadium.
For security reasons, English referee Paul Tierney didn’t allow the match to begin and asked for the intervention of the police. After approximately 15 minutes, the Austrian footballers left the field, being followed by the Moldovan ones. The match was started after the problem was remedied.
Moldova lost to Austria 0-2. Christoph Baumgartner scored with a kick from outside the area in the last minute of the first half. In the overtime of the second half, Marko Arnautovic set the final score after a good pass from David Alaba.
The team trained by Roberto Bordin will now play two matches away: against Scotland on September 4 and against the Faroe Islands on September 7.
Two more games of Group F were played yesterday evening. EURO 2020 semifinalist Denmark defeated Scotland 2-0, while Israel beat the Faroe Islands 4-0.
