For the first time since the Moldovan National Army and the Canadian Armed Forces established a bilateral relationship in 1996, Moldova has appointed a military attaché to Canada. Colonel Vitalie Micov will serve in this position while also being Moldova’s military attaché to the United States.

Col. Vitalie Micov will be responsible for ensuring effective cooperation between the Moldovan and Canadian military forces and for identifying new opportunities for improving the partnership, the Moldovan Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Immediately after a ceremony to present his credentials in Ottawa, the military diplomat had a number of meetings with officials from the Canadian Department of National Defense, with a view to identifying bilateral projects to advance the reform of the Moldovan army.

In recent years, Canada’s support for Moldova included, among other things, a donation of explosive ordnance disposal equipment. Canadian EOD suits are now used in bomb disposal operations across Moldova.

Prior to his 2018 appointment as a military attaché to the United States, col. Vitalie Micov worked in National Army commanding bodies. His background also includes training received in the United States.
