“Moldova and Russia established friendship relations, while the diplomatic contacts were initiated much earlier than these 20 years of independence of Moldova. There are many events in the history of the two countries showing that the Moldovan and the Russian peoples started to cooperate hundreds of years ago,” Russian Ambassador in Chisinau Valery Kuzmin said on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the bilateral relations, Info-Prim Neo reports. The diplomat stated that Russia is the largest commercial partner of Moldova, which imports a significant part of the Moldovan products, especially wines. “Reports show that 2/3 of Moldova’s people of different nationalities consider Russia a friend. They even say that the Moldovans want to live in Russia, but as in the European Union,” Valery Kuzmin said in a news conference. He also said that Russia could invest more in Moldova, but the privatization process here stopped, while the privatized facilities do not hold interest for Russian companies. Valery Kuzmin also spoke about the appointment of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin as Special Representative for Transnistria of the President of Russia, saying this shows that the Russians want the Transnistrian conflict to be settled. Valery Kuzmin completed his duties in Moldova and will leave the country on April 8. The newly appointed Ambassador Farit Muhametshin is to come to Chisinau in the near future.
