Experts of the Moldovan and Romanian Foreign Ministries will be considering the possibility of signing the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic in the near future. The first round of talks between division heads was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in Chisinau on Monday, the deputy head of the Ministry's press service Dorina Roman has told Info-Prim Neo.
“The duration of the talks depends on the development of things,” Dorina Roman said.
During the recent meeting of the Government, Moldovan Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca said the document could be signed by the end of this year.
According to the minister, the document applies to the Moldovan people living within an area of 50 kilometers of the Romanian border. They will be able to obtain a permit allowing them to travel to Romania visa free. Initially, the permit will be valid for a year. Afterward, it would be renewed, depending on the behavior of the holder.
In an informative note, the Romanian Foreign Ministry said the signing of the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic would mean the normalization of the Moldovan-Romanian relations.
