Moldova and ILO to conclude Cooperation Program 2006-2007

The deputy minister of Economy and Commerce, Sergiu Sainciuc will sign on Wednesday, June 7, the Cooperation Program between the Republic of Moldova and the International Labor Organization (ILO) for 2006-2007 entitled “State Program on Decent Work”. The event will be organized within the 95th International Labor Conference in Geneva, which will take place during June 1-15. According to the Press Service of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the priorities of the program are employment, adjusting the market policies to the standards of the European Union, strengthening the services and the influence of the social partners. Within the conference over 3,000 government, worker and employer leaders from 178 member countries will debate elements of future ILO instruments on occupational safety and health with a view toward adopting a new Convention and a Recommendation. The Committee on Occupational Safety and Health will hold a second discussion on a promotional framework aimed at lowering the toll of work-related injuries and diseases which cause some 2 million deaths each year. Previously, the chairman of the Trade Unions Confederation of Moldova, Petru Chiriac mentioned that at the conference, Moldova will present proofs on union rights violation in Moldova and interference of the state in the internal affairs of unions. The Moldovan delegation includes the deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce, Sergiu Sainciuc, the president of the mentioned-above confederation, Petru Chiriac, the president of the Confederation of Free Unions “Solidaritate”, Leonid Manea, the president of the National Confederation of Patronages, Leonid Cerescu and the executive director of NPS, Adrian Axenti. The role of ILO is to craft and adopt international labor standards, to elaborate the budget and elect members of the Governing Body. The conference is held every year in Geneva, Switzerland, in the month of June. Since 1919 ILO has served as an international tribune for discussions related to social issues and work relationships. Moldova is a member of the International Labor Organization since 1992.
