About 100 publishing houses and book distributors from eight countries will take part in the 23rd edition of the International Children’s and Youth Book Fair at the International Exhibitions Center “Moldexpo” in Chisinau during April 11-14, IPN reports.
This year, the surprise-book that is offered free to children who visit the fair is Claudia Partole’s “Tomcat with Seven Lives” that was illustrated by Violeta Zabulica-Diordiev. The book will reach 15,000 families. About 60 book titles will be launched as part of the fair in Pavilion No. 3 of “Moldexpo”, at the Prometeu-Prim Lyceum, at the National Library of Moldova and at the Municipal Library “B.P. Hasdeu” in Chisinau.
The fair will include an exhibition entitled “Library – Way of Access to Knowledge” that is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” and the arts exhibition “Childhood Rainbow” of children of the National Children’s and Youth Center “Artico”.
After the inauguration of the fair at 11am on April 11, in an event of the program “Listen to my favorite tale”, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck Hogan will read the story “The Cat in the Hat Comes Back!” by Dr. Seuss to children and will discuss the role of books in his life with them.
“Moldexpo” will also host the Forum of Children awarded at the national posters contest “Friends of Reading” that was staged in memory of Alexandrina Rusu. The contest involved 165 works the best of which will be published in the journal “a”Mic”.
The National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” will host the programing workshop “Code Lab” on April 11, starting at 1:30pm, and the workshop for parents “Why reading aloud in the family?” on April 13, starting at 11am. Two masterclasses of decorative floristics will be held later the same day.
The fair will also include the international conference “Library and Informal Education” on April 12, starting at 10am. The ceremony to award the laureates of the fair will take place on April 14, starting at noon.
The fair could be visited from Thursday to Saturday between 9am and 6pm and on Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
