The Chisinau City Hall in concert with the Ministry of Culture and the Writers Union prepared a large-scale program of activities dedicated to the late poet Grigore Vieru, Info-Prim Neo reports. On February 14, the great bard would have tuned 75. A number of activities will be carried out on this occasion in order to commemorate the generous and kind Grigore Vieru. According to the program, a concert titled “I Called for You” will be given at the National Palace on February 11 and 12. It will involve artists from Moldova and Romania for whom Grigore Vieru was and remains a spiritual father. Grigore Vieru's bust will be unveiled on the Romanian Classical Writers Alley in the central park on February 12, at 12.00. On the same day, the first lesson in the Chisinau schools will be dedicated to the poet. An international scientific conference themed “Grigore Vieru – 75 Years of Birth” will be held at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova on February 13, starting at 11.00. An art exhibition entitled “Your Incomparable Face” will be opened at the National Museum of Art and the Romanian Literature Museum “Mihail Kogalnicheanu” on the same day, at 15.00. The exhibit will include works by Glebus Sainciuc, Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, Igor Vieru and others. Flowers will be laid to the poet's bust in the central park on February 14, at 11.00. There will be given a poetry recital. A literary-musical performance titled “I'm not Alone” will start at the Organ Hall at 14.00. Grigore Vieru's stone bust made by Romanian artist Marcel Manastireanu will be unveiled in Straseni town on February 14. On February 13, the Romanian Cultural Association, the Moldovan Community in Quebec and Romanian writers in Montreal, Canada, will hold a conference dedicated to Grigore Vieru's 75th birthday. By February 14, the Chisinau authorities will select a street that will be renamed Grigore Vieru. According to Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, this street could be Renasterii Blvd. Poet Grigore Vieru was born on February 14, 1935 in Pererata village of Briceni district. He died on January 18, 2009 after he was involved in a road accident not far from Chisinau.
