The Oncological Institute has inaugurated its radiotherapy complex, equipped with a linear accelerator. The new device, which enables effective and precise treatment of malignant tumors, is the most advanced radiotherapy equipment in Moldova. The total value of the equipment is 1.7 million euros, IPN reports.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Health, the linear accelerator can serve 80 patients daily, and the waiting time for treatment will be reduced by one-third.
The equipment was purchased through a donation from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, in the amount of 1.18 million euros, as well as funding from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which contributed 500,000 euros.
To install the linear accelerator, the construction of a new modern radiotherapy complex with an area of 1,200 square meters was necessary. The first part of the complex was completed with the support of the U.S. Government, under a non-reimbursable assistance program, with a total value of two million dollars.
The Oncological Institute now has two linear accelerators, one installed in 2009, which is no longer effective, and another acquired in 2019 and installed in 2022.
In the last three years, the Ministry of Health, with the help of external partners, has invested over 200 million lei in the development of medical infrastructure and equipping the Oncological Institute with the latest generation equipment.
