The Moldovan Modern Pentathlon Federation will receive assistance from the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIMP) mostly in the form of equipment and free training for the athletes practicing this type of sport. The announcement was made by UIMP president Klaus Schormann while concluding a fact-finding visit to Chisinau. “My intention was to learn about the existing infrastructure, about the conditions of training the young athletes have. Our aspiration is to assist, as much as possible, the developing countries in practicing modern pentathlon”, Klaus Schormann said. The UIMP president says more investment is needed in this sport in order to promote a responsible physical culture. Klaus Schormann added that some training methods should be changed and supported the idea of opening some Modern Pentathlon Centers for children. “I observed the training conditions for children and athletes for two days, I discussed with decision makers of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, of the National Olympic Committee and of the National Federation. I will present a report to the UIMP in order to decide how the support should be provided and how the long-term collaboration with Moldova should be developed”, he said. Klaus Schormann has been the UIMP president for 16 years and in charge of the German Modern Pentathlon Federation for 27 years.
