The development of a modern army continues to be the strategic mission of the country in its European course and a guarantee of the national and regional security, President Nicolae Timofti said in an event held to celebrate the National Army Day that is marked on September 2, IPN has learned from the presidential press service.
The Head of State appreciated the efforts made by the National Army to protect the integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova, noting the service members’ role in liquidating the consequences of natural disasters and demining explosives or in the peacekeeping missions in the Transnistrian region.
Nicolae Timofti handed over state awards to service members and employees of the Ministry of Defense and special symbols (commemorative coin “25 years of the proclamation of Moldova’s Independence) to the first President of Moldova Mircea Snegur, Minister of Defense Anatolie Salaru, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan, director of the Security and Intelligence Service Mihai Balan and to the director of the State Protection and Guard Service Victor Tarna.
Some of the service members received diplomas of the Government of Moldova and National Army awards.
