The model menu that is now applied in the kindergartens of the municipality of Chisinau is to be reviewed. Such an approach was made by mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban. According to him, the current menu contains products that are not preferred by pupils, IPN reports.
The mayor noted it goes to the menu used in autumn and winter. “A number of persons, parent associations asked to introduce more fruit and vegetables in children‘s daily menus, such as broccoli and cauliflower. It yet turned out that the children are not used to eating such products and they simply don’t eat them. This food, which is not the cheapest one, is prepared, but is not eaten,” stated Ion Ceban.
He instructed the functionaries in charge to work out a menu with the same vitamins and calories included in the daily portion of children, but with products that are preferred by pupils, and to also examine the quantity of food products that is similar for crèche groups and for preparatory groups.
Andrei Pavaloi, deputy head of the General Education, Youth and Sport Division, said the menu of children in kindergartens now consists of four meals – two main ones and two snacks. In time, together with the approval of new provisions, the quantity of potatoes, sugar, grain and other products liked by children decreased considerably. The daily quantity of vegetables, primarily raw ones, was increased. Kindergarten directors said the children do not really like these vegetables.
