The witnesses for the prosecution in the case of Sergiu Mocanu, who was arrested in the Great National Assembly Square on April 8, are representatives of special services, the lawyer for the politician Ion Dron considers, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At a news conference on Friday, he said that a meeting between the witnesses for the prosecution and Sergiu Mocanu took place at the General Prosecutor’s Office yesterday. Ion Dron said that the first witness called by the prosecutor came in and said that he was very busy and will come back later because he has other more important problems to solve. “He did not come. I don’t know the reason, but it is clear that he is either police officer or employee of other special services, because only persons working for such bodies can ignore the prosecutor’s citation,” the lawyer said.
“This witness will come to the prosecutor after reading my interrogatories and will ‘do his homework’,” the lawyer said.
“I saw Sergiu Mocanu once or two times on the TV set, but I don’t remember when. I don’t know him personally. I identified him in the crowd from the stairs of the Presidential Office,” the lawyer said, reading the testimony of the second witness.
“These are the proofs used by judges with epaulets, under mafia, to argue for keeping Mocanu under arrest. On the basis of this evidence, Mocanu could be imprisoned for 8 to 15 years,” Dron said. According to him, the legal case handled now by the prosecutors is handled formally as in reality the case is administered by officials of the Ministry of the Interior or of other special services. These witnesses do not exist. They are invented after the person is arrested illegally.”
Ion Dron also said that Sergiu Mocanu is accused of organizing and managing the April 7 public disturbances. Initially, he was suspected of usurpation of state power. “I consider that this is a reserve accusation to be used if the judge decides to release Sergiu Mocanu. If the accused is set free, the prosecution bodies will use the second accusation to arrest him again,” the lawyer said.
Ion Dron stated that his client pleads not guilty and considers that the legal case against him is political persecution because he leveled tough criticism at the government.
Attending the conference, the politician’s wife Nadeja Mocanu said that she did not see her husband for 50 days.
The arrest warrant against Sergiu Mocanu expires on May 28.
