The number of mobile phone users in the first half of this year exceeded 4.2 million. The ratio of SIM cards to the residents was 120 : 100. This shows that a part of the users have by two or more SIM cards, show data of the national ICT regulator (ANRCETI), IPN reports.
On July 1, the number of active mobile phone users was over 3.6 million, while of passive ones (who didn’t use and didn’t pay a mobile phone service over the last three months) was 684,300.
The largest number of new users in the period (177,100) was recorded by SA Orange Moldova. This carrier’s clients increased by about 8% in number, to 2.4 million. The number of clients of SA Moldtelecom, which provides mobile phone services under the commercial brand “Unite”, came to 309,500, an increase of 28,400. SA Moldcell recorded only about 10,000 new users, in addition to the existing 1.5 million.
In the first half of this year, the market shares of the three mobile phone carriers didn’t change significantly. By turnover, SA Orange Moldova has a market share of 71.2%, SA Moldcell – of 24.6%, while SA Moldtelecom – of 4.3%.
