A number of members of the pyramidal scheme MMM in Moldova have complained that their deposit accounts were frozen. It was later revealed that the measure was ordered by Chisinau Prosecutor Ivan Diacov, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Anatoli Prizenko, a member of the group, told a news conference that about one thousand accounts had been frozen and that their holders would sue the banks involved. Anatoli Prizenko noted that all the MMM depositors joined the system voluntarily and they didn't do anything criminal.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Chisinau Prosecutor Ivan Diacov stated he resorted to the measure to protect “credulous people” from being scammed. “What's a pyramid, after all? Sooner or later it will collapse and then these people will come to us to complain and throw stones at the prosecutors for failing to protect them”.
The accounts will remain blocked until a court decision is pronounced.
Earlier, the National Bank of Moldova advised people to think twice before placing money in pyramid schemes such as MMM, noting that the scheme was not authorized and violated a number of laws.
