A mission of EU judges will come to Chisinau to interact and monitor the judicial process in Moldova, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca announced in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel “Moldova 1”, IPN reports.
According to the Premier, negotiations in this respect had been already held with officials of EU member states, who promised they will satisfy the request of the Government of Moldova.
Iurie Leanca said he resorted to such a method after a series of reforms in the justice sector didn’t produce the expected result, while the system opposes enormous resistance. “I can no longer tolerate cases when the judges take decisions that affect thousands of people or when the criminals sentenced to 20 years in jail are set free in seven months. Regretfully, our justice remains a very corrupt sector. Such a method produced results in other countries that earlier faced corruption-related problems in the justice sector and I hope it will bring the same results in our country,” he stated.
The Premier expressed his confidence that the phenomenon of corruption could be rooted out when progress is made on the path to joining the EU, which can help Moldova not only by allocating money, but also by exerting pressure.
According to Iurie Leanca, there are honest employees in the judicial system, the prosecution service and the Ministry of the Interior, but they are often not supported or are even marginalized.
