Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca of Chisinau announced on Thursday, June 17, the City Hall would initiate construction works to extend Mircea cel Batran Avenue. Ciocana’s main road will be prolonged to Bucovina Street, Info-Prim Neo reports. The construction will take place between the streets Ion Dumeniuc and Bucovina and should be finished in about 7 months. The avenue will be 100 meters wide and will have 6 lanes, 3 for each traffic direction. The trolleybus line will be extended to Bucovina Street as well. Overall, the project will cost 70 million lei, 30 of which have already been allotted of the municipal budget. “The City Hall decided to complete Mircea cel Batran Avenue’s construction because Ciocana sector has only one road, Alecu Russo, connecting it with the rest of the city. Besides, one of our priorities is to turn to profit the 20 hectares of free land in that area, which could be used to raise some apartment buildings”, Chirtoaca stated. The City Hall will soon organize a public tender to select the contractor. The municipal enterprise Edilitate has already begun the levelling of ground. The first section of Mircea cel Batran Avenue was built in 1989, between Alecu Russo and Igor Vieru streets. In 2003, it was extended to Ion Dumeniuc Street.
