The Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MSPS) will be divided into 2 different ministries. The Parliament approved on Friday, November 24, in first reading a draft law in this respect. According to the draft, MSPS will be split up, in order to create the Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child. According to the deputy minister of Health and Social Protection, Boris Golovin, the creation of a new minister is determined by the necessity of forming a new institutional framework which would be suitable for the protection of family rights and children, as well as for the social protection-related actions. Most of MPs who participated in the discussions concerning this draft law supported the creation of the new structure. The AMN MP, Leonid Bujor proposed that the function on the regulation of the family and child field is held by a separate Agency. This proposal will be examined in the second reading. According to the draft law, within 3 months, the Government has to approve the new structure, personnel and the regulation of the new minister. The fields of social protection and healthcare were also covered by two separated ministries within “Tarlev 1” Government, which served from 2001 to 2005. The new Cabinet created in 2005 decided to merge these 2 ministries in order “to reduce bureaucracy”. The present Government includes 16 ministries.
