The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova is concerned about the increasing tensions at the border between the European Union and Belarus, caused by the flow of migrants heading for the Belarusian-Polish border.
“In the current circumstances, the concentration of migrants in the border zone should be stopped and international organizations’ access should be ensured for providing humanitarian assistance. We also consider actions should be taken to ease political tensions with the involvement of all the relevant players,” the Ministry said in a comment that is quoted by IPN.

“The massive concentration in this part of Europe of persons coming from other geographical regions points to the organized character of the flow of migrants. We consider it is unacceptable for the health and lives of persons who are in the border zone to be endangered because of the difficult conditions. It is regrettable that this crisis leads to the further worsening of the relations between the European Union and the Republic of Belarus. The provocation of such crises doe not generate any benefit, while the persons who are in the epicenter of the situation will only suffer,” says the comment.

The migrant crisis at the Belarusian-Polish border arouse back in August and has worsened in the recent past. In September, Poland declared a state of emergency at the border with Belarus. About 12,000 Polish soldiers were massed on the border. The EU, NATO and the U.S. repeatedly called on President Alexandr Lukashenko to stop the provocative actions aimed at causing a new migrant crisis in Europe. The migrant crisis at the Belarusian-Polish border tuned into a humanitarian one as the migrants there suffer from cold and hunger.

Polish Government spokesman Piotr Muller said the migrants in the border zone total 3,000-4,000, with another 10,000 migrants heading for the borer with Poland via Belarus.

“The Polish authorities on November 9 closed the Bruzhi-Kuznica border crossing point where hundreds of migrants gathered together a day earlier, with some of them trying to go through the barbed wire fence to the European Union member state,” noted RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service.
