The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration demands that the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova should refrain from gestures that do not contribute to a clam atmosphere in Moldovan society and to better assess the situation in Moldova, IPN reports. The call is part of a statement issued by the Ministry’s spokesman Daniel Vodă to a post in which the Embassy of Russia says that the cases of discrimination against “Russian citizens and compatriots” in the Republic of Moldova according to different criteria have intensified”.

“We noticed a number of reactions in the press following the publication of a press release on the website of the Embassy of the Russian Federation by which society is sensitized to so-called “cases of discrimination” of citizens of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova. Such a post does not contribute to a clam atmosphere in our society and we ask the partners to refrain from such gestures and to better assess the situation in our country,” says the statement.

“It is noteworthy that the rights of all the inhabitants are guaranteed in our country, the Republic of Moldova being an example in the region of peaceful and safe coexistence for all its residents, regardless of the ethnic origin of these. In this connection, we note that there were reported no cases of discrimination, primarily on the ground of ethnicity, the Republic of Moldova abiding by solid, European mechanisms for preventing discrimination. However, if someone feels discriminated, we invite any citizen to go to the Council for Preventing and Eliminating Discrimination and Ensuring Equality, and to also use the hotline 0-8003-3388.”

Yesterday, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau called on “the citizens of Russia and Russian compatriots” to seek help from the Embassy over what is describes as “increase in the number of cases of discrimination on grounds of nationality, language, culture, religion and others and commission of acts of violence or acts that threaten life and health”.
