The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reiterates its indignation at the provocative behavior of the Russian troops that were illegally deployed in the Transnistrian region, which, despite the repeated objections from the Moldovan authorities, continues to stage military activities with dubious objectives. The Moldovan authorities’ concern in this regard is fueled by the fact that the police force of the separatist region is also involved in these exercises, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Ministry.

The Ministry said that according to the information published on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, the Operational Group of Russian Forces deployed in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova started to hold military drills aimed at counteracting terrorism and training service members to act when the conventional enemy uses weapons of mass destruction.

Such military activities are condemned with vehemence and are perceived as a direct and brutal threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry reminds of Russia’s commitment to pull out its troops from Moldova’s territory, in particular the commitment stipulated in the agreement on the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, which was signed in 1992.

The Ministry also reiterated the Moldovan authorities’ request to unconditionally withdraw the Russian military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova and to start discussions on the transformation of the current peacekeeping mission into a civilly mandated international one.
