The first lesson of the new academic year in all schools across the country will be themed “European Moldova”. The Ministry of Education and Research sent out a circular to general education institutions to help teachers prepare their lectures.
The Ministry says the theme of the first lesson was chosen in the context of Moldova obtaining EU candidate status. Depending on the age of the pupils, various European integration-related topics are proposed for discussion, including European goals and values, freedom and democracy.
The information package for the first lesson was developed with the involvement of teachers and young people who did internships in government institutions during July and August. The internship program is jointly implemented by the Moldovan Government the European Union Delegation.
Moldova submitted its formal application to join the European Union on March 3, 2022. In June of last year, the European Commission recommended that Moldova get candidate status on condition of implementing a set of important reforms.
