A working group established by the National Committee for Emergency Situations will monitor wheat, flour and bakery products prices.
According to the Government’s press unit, the group will consist of specialists from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) and will be charged to ensure price stability of bread. MEC representatives will also provide assistance to bakers in signing cereals sales contracts.
Another working group of the same ministry will monitor the available resources of grain and will coordinate imports to ensure food security of the country.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) will be tasked to coordinate activities meant to prepare agricultural lands for the 2008 season and ensure the agricultural sector with energy resources and fuel. MAFI will also identify and submit to the Government for consideration a viable mechanism of facilities for farmers.
The National Committee for Emergency Situations firmly recommends the local authorities to set up local grain reserves to ensure food security at the level of districts.
