The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) will present the international financial organizations a project concerning the building of a network of butcheries, which would correspond to the EU standards. This information was made public during an international seminar dedicated to the problem of building several modern butcheries, organized recently in Chisinau. According to the Ministry, at the moment, existent slaughter-houses don’t correspond to the European standards, a fact which hampers the export of meat produced in the R. of Moldova on the respective markets. Today, there are 128 butcheries in the republic, of which only 21 have the right to export meat, with the exception of the EU markets. One of the redressing possibilities, according to the Minister Anatol Gorodenco would be the obtainment of financing as part of some projects as RISP, IFAD and others. MAFI elaborated and approved a plan of actions for redressing the deficiencies in export of animals and products of animal origin in EU states, as well as a program concerning the production and sales of meat, conforming to the requirements of the European Community. Also, the Law on identifying and registering animals was adopted. In the first semester of the current year, the R. of Moldova imported about 22,000 tonnes of meat, in exchange, exported only 200 tonnes of meat, which is less than one percent from the exports.
