The temporary permit valid until September 30 was issued to the Rybnitsa-based Moldovan Metallurgical Plant under a momentary compromise that was reached to satisfy the needs of citizens, Minister of Environment Iuliana Cantaragiu told a news conference. According to the official, it also goes to the price of electrical energy, IPN reports.

Irregularities were identified at the Rybnitsa steel works and the Environment Agency therefore refused to issue an ordinary permit to this. The plant is to decide whether to remove those irregularities or not. If it does not do this, it will not get an ordinary permit. “We cannot say if the permit will be extended or not as the provision of this temporary permit valid until September 30 is part of a process of broad negotiations between the authorities in Chisinau and the so-called authorities from the left side of the Nistru for obtaining different concessions needed by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova at this moment, like the price of electricity and the mobility of farmers in Dubăsari,” stated Iuliana Cantaragiu.

The Commission for Exceptional Situations extended the period of validity of the environmental waste permit and the stationary pollution sources discharge permit issued to the Moldovan Metallurgical Plan until September 30, 2022. Earlier, the Environment Agency refused to issue the given certificates.
