Minister of Environment Valeriu Munteanu said Chisinau will not remain without water owing to the hydrological drought and called on society not to get into a panic. In a message on a social networking site, the minister wrote that the Ukrainian side releases sufficient quantities of water, including for supplying with water Odessa region, which is located to the south of Chisinau, IPN reports.

Therefore, Chisinau is not in danger of remaining without water. However, the water pumps should be placed deeper, as it was done along the Prut River, stated Valeriu Munteanu.

According to the minister, Moldova indeed witnesses the harshest hydrological drought in the last 50 years. The water in the Nistru and Prut Rivers satisfies 30-35% of the needs of water in this period of the year. The recent rain can satisfy only the soil cultivation needs of the country, not yet the hydrological ones.

The minister reacted following press reports about the Communist MPs’ warning concerning the decrease in the level of water in the Nistru River and the danger of a halt in the supply of Chisinau with water. Earlier, forecasters issued a yellow and red code advisory for hydrological drought for April 4-15.
