Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar thinks there isn’t any risk of Moldova falling into recession this year. The Minister told the press that although the global economy faced the risk of a recession, there were no chances for Moldova to reach such a situation, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The recession or economic decline means that we should have a negative balance for three quarters in a row, which is not the case and I see no risk of this happening. We’re simply dealing with a slowdown of the economic growth”, said Valeriu Lazar. As regards the statement of the National Bank (BNM) governor Dorin Dragutanu that Moldova could fall into recession this year, the Minister explained that the governor referred to the risk concerning the global economy. In a way, this is indeed a risk for Moldova, but this year the economy will continue to grow. According the Ministry’s calculations, the economic results in the second quarter will be better than in the first one. “Industry is back on its feet and the same is true for the sphere of investments. We’re are not in a recession and we won’t be this year”, declared Valeriu Lazar. BNM governor Dorin Dragutan stated last week during a TV show that Moldova could fall into a recession this year. According to him, the modest economic growth anticipated by the Government won’t be reached.
