Designate minister of defense Eugen Sturza will be sworn in on October 24, the Parliament’s public relations division has said. The decree is to be signed by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, who holds office of President of Moldova on an interim basis, IPN reports.

The event will take place at the State Residence based at 23 N. Iorga St in Chisinau starting at 12:30pm.

Eugen Sturza was fielded by Prime Minister Pavel Filip on September 12, but he was rejected by President Igor Dodon. The Premier fielded the same candidate again and this was again rejected. As a result, the Government requested the Constitutional Court to clarify the actions that can be taken by the Prime Minister and the decisions that can be adopted by Parliament if the President rejects a candidate for minister that was fielded two times.

On October 17, the Constitutional Court ruled that the President of Moldova has the right to check the compliance of the candidate proposed by the Prime Minister for a post, but does not have the right of veto against this candidate. Given that the President deliberately refused to fulfill the constitutional obligation to name the candidate proposed two times by the Premier for minister of defense, this will be temporarily removed from office.

On October 20, the CC decided that the Speaker of Parliament or the Prime Minister will hold office of President on an interim basis for issuing the decree to name the minister of defense and for swearing this in.
