The campaign “A Doctor for You” is “ineffective and it can be done even by med school freshmen”. Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco told a press briefing that it was her decision to cancel the campaign started by the previous government, reports IPN.

Ala Nemerenco remarked that the doctors and residents assigned to the campaign were “merely travelling from village to village just for simple check-ups without any follow-up monitoring for the patient.”

“It is an absolutely ineffective way to manage the human and financial resources available. Taxpayers’ money was used to dispatch vehicles to various corners of the country. This type of jobs can be done by a simple med school student”, mentioned Ala Nemerenco.

Nemerenco also suggested that the campaign hijacked a parallel nationwide effort of mammographic screenings and radiograms.

“A Doctor for You Campaign is merely a publicity stunt”, added Ala Nemerenco.

The minister also spoke about the program “A new life”, noting how it was originally a project by  Vlad Plahotniuc’s charity and how it later became a boon for a private company.

“The campaign that came to supply mothers with these newborn sets is a company that has won a lot of government contracts in recent years,” said Ala Nemerenco, stating that the auction whereby the company was awarded the contract was rigged. The auction has now been canceled.

As a result, Ala Nemerenco said that parents would receive the monetary value of the newborn kits. The lump-sum birth benefit will increase by 1,609 lei to a total 7,911 lei.

Just two days before the resignation of the previous government, the former health minister Silvia Radu awarded the contract for the newborn kits to a company named Rapid Link, despite a lower bid from another contender.
