Minimum salary is 400 lei

As from 1 April 2007, the minimum salary in Moldova is 400 lei. This is twice as much compared to the previous minimum rate. The Government approved Wednesday a decision which provides the abrogation of the previous decision of 2004, which set the minimum salary at 200 lei. The Government states that the increase in the minimum salary will not influence the salary system of the employees in the national economy. According to informative note attached to the draft, starting April 1, there will be implemented the minimum sizes of the base pays, established in the wage scale of employees of the budgetary sector, approved under the Law nr. 355. As regards the first category, the salary of 400-500 lei is provided in wage scale of employees in budgetary units. As for qualification category I, in the real sector of the national economy, starting July 2006, it is set a minimum monthly salary of 550 lei for employees working in micro-enterprises in the field of agriculture and forestry, while for the employees of financial autonomy units of other branches – at least 700 lei. The implementation of the new quantum of the minimum monthly salary of 400 lei does not need additional budgetary funds compared to those planned for implementing the provisions of the Law of 22 March 2007, which provided the increase in salary of budgetary workers during this year.
