Comments are being sought on proposals to introduce a minimum 2,000 lei ($113, €96) age pension and have all pensions and a number of other forms of social benefits indexed to inflation, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection said the 3.86% indexation will mirror the inflation recorded in the first quarter of this year compared to December 2020.
The 2,000 lei minimum monthly pension is proposed to be paid starting October 1. The difference between the minimum pension and the amount calculated under the current rules of the social insurance system will be covered by the State Budget.
The costs of the indexation measure are estimated at 188.2 million lei and the minimum pension measure will require another 512.7 million lei.
The Law on the Public Pension System provides for semiannual indexations on April 1 and October 1. In the spring, pensions are indexed to average CPI in the last three years, and in the fall, the adjustment reflects Q1 inflation.
