As of January 1, 2024, the minimum official monthly salary will be 5,000 lei for a complete work program of 169 hours, which is 29.58 lei an hour. A Government decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu, if the work program is of fewer than 40 hours a week, the minimum salary will be calculated depending on the average number of hours worked a month, according to the approved legal work program.
In 2023, the Government unified the minimum salary and this is applied equally in the public sector and in the real sector of the economy. In 2022, the minimum salary was 3,500 lei, while in 2023 – 4,000 lei.
