The bill to exempt the passenger carriers from paying taxes for the period between June 1 and December 31, 2020 was approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council on August 4, IPN reports.
At the start of the meeting, the representative of the Employers Road Carriers Association asked the councilors to accept the exemption. He noted that the number of minibuses running on routes in Chisinau decreased to 350 units.
According to the informative note issued by the Association, since April until the end of June, 210 minibuses were definitively withdrawn from municipal routes and the number of running minibuses continues to decrease. The municipality risks facing major problems in dealing with the flow of passengers in September, if the students return to school.
Municipal councilor Vitalie Mucan, chair of the meeting, said the taken decision will ensure the uninterrupted circulation of public passenger transport until new buses and minibuses are placed on routes.
