The prices of milk products are expected to go up. The chairwoman of the National Association of Milk and Dairy Producers Carolina Linte has told IPN that the prices will be raised this month, but gradually. Some of the dairy products will grow dearer by 1%-2%.
According to Carolina Linte, the dairy producers import auxiliary products used in production, which are paid in euros. The high interest rate they pay on loans will also have a negative influence on the prices. Another reason for the expected price rises is the increase in the prices of raw material and of the imported packing equipment.
The chairwoman of the National Association of Milk and Dairy Producers noted that the national legislation is being adjusted to the legislation of the EU, which requires modernizing the milk processing process. Thus, investments are needed for equipping the labs and production halls.
Carolina Linte also said that the prices of milk products haven’t been raised during the last year and a half.
In Moldova there are about 15 large and small dairy producers that run one or several dairies.
