Russian, Moldovan and Transnistrian peacekeepers participated Thursday in the military drills planned by the Joint Control Commission (JCC) at the start of the year. Moldova's representative to the Commission Ion Leahu has told Info-Prim Neo that the exercises were held as part of an open lesson which closed the summer training courses for peacekeepers. “The lesson was aimed at checking the abilities of the soldiers in all the areas, from the internal organization of the posts to the use of weapons and war machines,” he said. According to Leahu, a group of peacekeepers played the role of terrorists who, after the political situation in Moldova worsened, attacked a peacekeeping post with the aim of removing the peacekeeping forces operating in the region. The post dealt successfully with the attack. The intervention groups made their appearance in the second part of the exercise. “The participants showed they master war techniques and can use well the weapons and telecommunication means. The Unified Military Command approved of the lesson,” Ion Leahu said. The military exercises took place near the peacekeeping post No. 1 located between Dubasari and Cocieri. The next drills will be held in March 2010. The ordinary meeting of the JCC that was to take place in Tighina on Thursday was postponed as all the members of the Commission attended the military exercises. The next meeting will be held next Thursday, October 29.
