Military evacuate people from Ungheni

The Moldovan Army has started to evacuate the households in Ungheni district threatened by floods, as they prepared some 5,000 sand sacks to strengthen protection dams on July 29. 420 houses and 1,261people are threatened in Ungheni district. The people living in Ungheni town, Danuteni and Macaresti villages are the most exposed, as 500 people live in 170 households in the water's way, Info-Prim Neo reports.
A communique by the Defense Ministry reads some 100 military from Chisinau employ military vehicles to carry the people and their belongings menaced by the freshet. At the same time, other military work in the villages of Dorotcaia and Parata below Dubasari town to prevent flooding.
Last night, the Army distributed tents to people from the flooded localities in Rascani district. The military use 4 camp kitchens to feed the evacuees.
According to colonel Igor Cutie, ad interim chief of Staff, some 130 soldiers and 17 vehicles go on helping the population from Rascani. The military have evacuated 870 men and women and over 200 children living in Braniste, Avrameni and Reteni villages menaced to flooded by the Prut. The have rescued some 450 cows belonging to flooded-stricken people.
In another press release, the Defense Ministry says its officers will donate their one-day salary, food and logistics to support the people affected by the calamity.
On Wednesday morning, the motor and railway border crossings “Criva – Mamalyga” and “Otaci – Mohilev Podolsk” worked as usual, the Border Guards Service informs. Only the border checkpoints “Cosauti – Yampol”, “Soroca – Tsekinovka” and “Sculeni” are not operating.
